Privacy Policy

What we collect

Location data. Mroad uses your device's location to calculate how far you are from fuel stations and local favorites belonging to the brands you've chosen. This happens in two ways:

• Foreground location: while the app is open, to show you nearby stations.
• Background location: even while the app is closed or the screen is locked, so voice alerts can be delivered on time — this permission is requested separately and explicitly.

Notification permission. We display a persistent notification to show that background tracking is active (a requirement enforced by Android).

Learn my routes (on your device, on by default). While this option is on, the app keeps the roads you drive as a simplified line only on your phone and uses them to announce places along the way more accurately when you drive the same road again. Places where several of your drives end (for example your home or workplace) are also worked out only on your phone as a point; when you approach such a point, places beyond it are not announced. This information is never sent to our servers or to third parties. You can turn it off in Settings > "Learn my routes" and delete everything with "Delete learned routes"; it is also deleted when you uninstall the app.

Microphone (optional, voice questions). If you turn on "Voice questions" in Settings, the app uses the microphone only while the driving screen is open; it does not listen in the background or while the screen is locked. Your speech is turned into text by your phone's speech recognition service (usually Google on Android). Mroad does not record audio and does not send your voice or the text of your question to our servers — the transcribed question is handled only on your phone. The station lookups needed for an answer are made with your location, as for the other lists.

Preferences stored on your device. Preferences like your chosen brands, country, and voice settings are stored only on your device (AsyncStorage). This information is not automatically sent to our servers.

Feedback and station reports. Feedback messages you send us from Settings (along with the app version and platform) and station reports you submit (the "Something wrong?" button: station number, name, and the reason you choose) are stored on our servers. This data isn't linked to your identity.

Usage reward program (optional). In the temporary usage reward program that runs until the closed test ends, the time you spend tracking while moving is measured only on your device. When you earn a reward, a random app ID generated by the app, your reward code, and the number of completed days are saved on our servers. This record doesn't identify you; however, if you email us to claim the reward, we need to match your code to you, and the details you send in your email are used only to make the payment.

How we use your data

Location data is used solely to find the nearest station or local favorite and trigger a voice alert, by comparing your device's current location with station coordinates in our database. If you choose a destination city, points further along the route are queried for the same purpose. Feedback and station reports are used to improve the app, and reward program records are used to verify reward eligibility, manage the quota, and prevent abuse. We don't use this data for advertising, profiling, or sharing with third parties.

Third-party services

We use Supabase (a database hosting service) to query station and local-favorite data. Supabase is a service provider that processes data on our behalf. During a query, your device's current location (and, if you chose a destination city, points further along the route) is sent to Supabase's servers over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) solely to answer that query; this data isn't stored permanently or linked to your identity.

Speech recognition. With voice questions on, your phone's own speech recognition service (usually Google on Android) turns your speech into text. This is subject to that service's own privacy terms; Mroad only receives the transcribed text and does not store it.

Weather on your route. When you set a destination and this feature is on, the app sends the approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) of a few points along your route, and your estimated arrival time at each, to our Supabase server so it can tell you about the weather ahead. Our server requests the forecast from MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute) only for the centres of roughly 11 km areas; your location, identity or IP address are never sent to MET Norway. The route points are not stored; only the area forecasts are briefly cached on the server (at most 2 hours). You can turn this off in Settings > "Weather on your route". Reachability (road distance) check. In Turkey, to tell whether a place that looks right by the road can actually be reached (for example on the other side of a divided road, behind a barrier, or only with a U-turn), during a drive your current location, your direction of travel and the location of a few nearby places are sent via Supabase to our own routing server (operated by Mroad, hosted in Germany) over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). The server only calculates the road distance and returns it; your location is not stored, not linked to your identity and not shared with third parties. Routing uses OpenStreetMap data. To improve which stations can be reached from which direction, we also keep anonymous station counters that contain no location, time or identity information (only how often a station was reachable or unreachable from a given direction).

Route guide and province/district info. Well-known places on your route (mountain passes, lakes, rivers, viaducts, elevation, province borders) and province/district info ship inside the app and are computed on your phone without using the internet. Data retention

We don't store your location data on our servers — each query is processed instantly and not retained. With "Learn my routes" on, learned routes are stored only on your device. Feedback messages and station reports you submit are stored on our servers to help us improve the app, and reward program records are kept until the program ends and payments are completed, and are deleted afterwards. Feedback and reports aren't linked to your identity. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting iletisim@mroad.app (for feedback, quote the message text; for a reward record, your reward code). Preferences stored on your device are deleted when you uninstall the app.

Withdrawing permission

You can change or withdraw location, notification and microphone permissions at any time from your phone's Settings > Apps > Mroad > Permissions. If you withdraw location permission, Mroad's voice alert feature will stop working; withdrawing microphone permission only turns off voice questions (you can also turn them off in Settings > "Voice questions").

Children's privacy

Mroad is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from users under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When there are material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
